The mission of the Rough Fish Assassins is to empower and educate, to preserve and protect the sport of bowfishing. To share the knowledge and history of the sport and create a safe space to experience the sport of bowfishing and all it has to offer.
We at the Rough Fish Assassins want to create and project a safe, fun, and educational environment to share with every person and every business across the nation
Our display started in 2010 with a card table, a small pop-up canopy, borrowed fish mounts, and a laptop running a bowfishing video. Every year something changed, adding fish mounts, custom built tables, adding TVs, bigger canopy, etc. In 2015 the shooting tank was added to our display, allowing us to attend even more events that were not located on lakes or rivers. In 2018 we pushed the envelope and motorized the targets in the tank. This allowed a more realistic element to our display, gaining even more enjoyment to those that attended our display.
Our Bowfishing Education and Experience trailer was always a dream. Prior to the trailer, we would have to travel with two trucks, one pulling the boat and one pulling the cargo trailer that housed all the pieces for the display. Some of our larger events we noticed that kids were not viewing the informative part of the display and would just go right to the boat to shoot fish. This began the push to find a trailer big enough to fit our vision. That happened in 2023, when we found an older 40 foot mobile library, and over the course of the next year we would rebuild most of the trailer, modifying it to fit our vision. In 2024, we rolled the trailer out of the shop for the first time, and it has been met with nothing but rave reviews. We are always looking to upgrade and advance the display and trailer, our vision has not gotten smaller, and neither will the future for the RFA.

Travis started bowfishing in about 1992 and found an early love for the sport. Eventually he would go on to form the Rough Fish Assassins in 2008. About that same time, he joined the Wisconsin Bowfishing Association (WBA). In 2011 He was asked to do a display for a Boy Scout camp and quickly realized that there was a need to do more and take it to the next level. In 2014 he won the position on WBA Regional Rep for unit 4, which he still holds

DJ joined the RFA in late 2013 after a short bowfishing trip with the RFA. His bowfishing addiction was nothing short of Travis's and quickly became a crucial part of the team. Some of the oddest ideas turned into some of the best ideas for the RFA came from DJ.

Jordan, daughter of Travis, always watched and enjoyed seeing what dad brough back from a night of bowfishing. In 2014 things finally came together and she was able to go out and shoot her first fish. Since that time, she has been stepping into the display and tech side of the RFA. Her passion for the sport has grown exponentially over the years.

Riley, son of Travis, was one that wanted to bowfish, but was initially hesitant to fully commit to the sport. In 2014 he joined the RFA on a tournament trip to Illinois. Here he was able to secure his first fish. Riley continues to learn and grow with the RFA by attending and helping with more and more displays, growing his knowledge and developing a passion for teaching others about bowfishing.
